Calling innovators, developers, and designers!

10 spots are available for local Silicon Valley technologists to join globally recognized female entrepreneurs in solving for a grand challenge June 2016: technologies that empower women.

Women, like men, should try to do the impossible, and when they fail, their failure should be a challenge to others.
— Amelia Earhart

This Hacktivision is an official partner event of the Global Entrepreneurship Summit hosted by the State Department in collaboration with StartX, Stanford’s accelerator, and IDEO, the world’s premiere design firm. It is a two-day hackathon from 8 am on Saturday, June 25th, 2016 to 6 pm on Sunday, June 26th.

The participating GES entrepreneurs are flying in from countries all over the world including; Bhutan, Kyrgyzstan, Oman, Pakistan, Colombia, and beyond. These entrepreneurs will be joined by Silicon Valley technologists from underrepresented groups in technology, such as women, Latinos, and African Americans.

This hackathon is a mindmeld of talented participants from diverse backgrounds personally and professionally. They’ve founded companies like She’kab, which makes it possible for women to travel more safely in Pakistan, and Astro Digital, which enables big data analytics from Space.  They’ve served as White House Innovation Fellows and Fulbright Scholars.

Everyone is encouraged to pitch an idea in 2 minutes or less followed by rapid voting rounds.  After teams assembled with design, developer, and innovative talent, they will be guided through prototyping with IDEO experts. Each group is also assigned a technical mentor for the entire weekend, culminating in the opportunity to present their prototype in front of veteran Silicon Valley technologists. Homestays in the startup community will be provided by Magpie. If you're interested in hosting a female entrepreneur, please email: support@getmagpie.com.
